Vicious Animals

Hollywood Park’s definition of a vicious animal is a domestic animal that

(1) Habitually or repeatedly without provocation chases, snaps at, attacks, or bites a person or domestic animal; or

(2) Makes an unprovoked attack on a person or another animal that causes bodily injury and occurs in a place other than a secure enclosure in which the animal was being kept.

 

Requirements for the owner of a vicious animal

Sec 10-72

An owner, not later than the 15th day after the date the owner is notified that an animal is a vicious animal, may appeal the determination of the animal control officer to the municipal court. An owner may appeal the decision of the municipal court in the same manner for other civil cases.

Not later than the 30th day after a person learns that he or she is the owner of a vicious animal, the person shall:

(a) Register the vicious animal with the town;

(b) Restrain the vicious animal at all times on a leash in the immediate control of a person or in a secure enclosure;

(c) Muzzle the animal when it is outside the secure enclosure;

(d) Obtain liability insurance coverage or show financial responsibility in an amount of at least $100,000.00 to cover damages resulting from an attack by the vicious animal causing bodily injury to a person; and

(e) Have the vicious animal spayed or neutered.

 

Registration of a vicious animal.

Sec. 10-73.

(1) The owner is required to annually register a vicious animal and:

(a) Present proof of liability insurance or financial responsibility, current rabies vaccination, proof of sterilization of the vicious animal and have a secure enclosure in which the vicious animal will be kept that is inspected and approved by the animal control officer; and

(b) Pay an annual registration fee in an amount as listed in the schedule of fees on file in the office of the city secretary.

(2) The animal control officer shall provide to the owner registering a vicious animal a registration tag and verify that the owner must place the tag on the animal’s collar. The collar must be fluorescent yellow.

(3) If an owner of a registered vicious animal sells or moves the animal to a new address within Hollywood Park, the owner, not later than the 14th day after the date of the sale or move, shall notify the animal control officer for the area in which the new address is located. On presentation by the current owner of the vicious animal’s prior registration tag and payment of the fee, the animal control officer authority shall issue a new registration tag to be placed on the vicious dog’s collar.

(4) A registration is nontransferable. A new or subsequent owner shall pay a new registration fee in an amount as listed in the schedule of fees on file in the office of the city secretary.
