How do I prepare for an emergency?

Every household should have an emergency plan, an emergency supply kit, and a way to receive emergency alerts. Families should discuss meeting locations, emergency contacts, and what to do during severe weather, fire, or other emergencies.

How often should I test my smoke alarm?

Smoke alarms should be tested monthly using the test button. Batteries should be replaced as needed, and smoke alarms should be replaced according to the manufacturer’s guidance.

How many smoke alarms do I need in my home?

Homes should have smoke alarms installed in each bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of the home. Proper placement and maintenance are important for early warning.

What type of fire extinguisher should I keep at home?

A multi-purpose ABC fire extinguisher is commonly recommended for home use. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and only attempt to extinguish a fire if it is small, contained, and safe to do so.

Do you offer smoke detector assistance?

Yes. The department assists residents with smoke detector checks, battery replacement, and related safety support when available.

Do you offer medical checks for residents?

Yes. Weekly medical checks are available on Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and may include blood pressure checks, glucose readings, and other basic wellness services.

Can children or community groups visit the station?

Yes. The department welcomes opportunities to host station tours and safety presentations for schools, youth groups, and community organizations.

Do you provide fire prevention education at schools?

Yes. Firefighters visit local schools and community groups to provide fire safety education, prevention tips, and emergency preparedness information.

Can I contact the department with a fire safety concern or inspection question?

Yes. Questions about inspections, life safety issues, fire code concerns, or related matters may be directed to the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Does the department participate in community events?

Yes. The department participates in several community programs and special events throughout the year, including fire prevention outreach, public education, National Night Out, holiday events, and Santa visits in December.
